Chinese New Year (CNY), also known as the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year, is China's biggest and most important national holiday and the largest human migration in the world. Millions of people crowd into train stations and airports and onto highways, travelling thousands of miles across the country to spend this special occasion with their friends and family — loved one's they might not have seen for a long, long time.
The event marks the end of winter and the start of spring, and its date changes every year as dictated by the lunar calendar. In 2022, CNY runs between 1st to 15th February and marks the beginning of the year of the Tiger.
How will the Chinese New Year affect my delivery?
When Seven Seas Worldwide ships your personal belongings to China by sea, the container is first sent to Hong Kong and then to the Port of Guangzhou on the mainland. However, every year during CYN, all the ports across the country close for two weeks.
The difference in 2022 is that these closures are being extended by an additional two weeks to comply with COVID-19 rules. In line with these government regulations, port staff must isolate for seven days before travelling back home and then for another week before they're able to return to work.
As a result of these temporary shutdowns, all Seven Seas Worldwide shipments arriving in Hong Kong on their way to Guangzhou, China, between 7th January to 14th February will be affected by delays, with the port set to resume its regular schedule 15th February.
Chinese New Year free storage arrangements
To lessen the impact of these port closures, we'll be providing free secure storage to all our customers whose goods are delayed in Hong Kong during this period. In addition, you'll be able to use your online tracker to monitor progress and keep an eye on your shipment once it gets moving again.
We would also like to thank our customers for their trust and patience and promise we'll be doing everything in our power to transport your belongings safely and as promptly as possible to their destination after these closures have been lifted.
